PrimaryPlus Celebrates Community Health Center Week 2009

(August 6, 2009) As a federally qualified health center, PrimaryPlus is happy to share in the spirit of National Health Center Week 2009 (August 9-15, 2009).  The nation’s network of more than 1,200 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) serves more than 18 million people through 7,000 sites located in all of the 50 states.  In our Buffalo Trace region, PrimaryPlus serves as the outlet for community health centers for over 13 counties in both Kentucky and Ohio with site locations in Lewis, Mason, Fleming and Bracken counties.

The theme of the week, “Where Access and Quality Care Begin,” highlights health centers’ roles as a “medical home” for some 18 million people in America, providing primary and preventive care and a range of services.  PrimaryPlus serves 18,000+ patients in the Buffalo Trace area each year – a number that is increasing due to layoffs and cutbacks during the economic downturn.  PrimaryPlus has always stood strong on its mission of providing quality, advanced, affordable healthcare.  It is consistently grown to be in the top 5% of all medical facilities nationwide based on technology and low cost services.  As a Community Health Center, PrimaryPlus is proudly able to offer its patient’s programs such as:

  • Income-based sliding fee scale for uninsured/underinsured reducing healthcare cost within their facilities up to as much as 75% (once approved).
  • Pharmacy programs through PrimaryPlus’ on-site pharmacies (called 340B pricing) that can lower medications cost significantly.
  • A proud partner of the Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program that helps people with no prescription coverage get medications for free (once qualified).
  • Accepts most insurance, Medicaid/Medicare (both KY and OH).
  • Offers additional services such as dental, rehabilitation and women’s health services that provide quality care at a reduced price (not available at all PrimaryPlus locations)
  • Works with many different collaboratives to ensure comprehensive healthcare—such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

“We are very humbled by our community health center status.  PrimaryPlus, who will celebrate its 26th year this fall as a community health center, strives to provide only the best for our patients.  National Community Health Center week serves as an opportunity to reflect on where we have been and where we continue to go,” states Jerry Ugrin, CEO of PrimaryPlus.

In the long run, health centers are envisioned as a major part of the solution for providing care to the 60 million people in the United States who are – according to a report by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) – medically disenfranchised.  A health center plan called ACCESS for All America has the goal of preserving, strengthening and expanding health centers, ultimately providing affordable, high-quality care to all medically underserved.
